Inner conflict often feels like a heavy weight, triggering and far from what we yearn for, peace. Yet, what if these struggles are not obstacles but guides? This weekend, I experienced a profound shift during an ayahuasca ceremony that revealed how our inner conflicts serve as keys to freedom and self-liberation. When we face conflict and turn the pointing finger back in, asking the right questions, we begin to learn about ourselves, express our true needs, and find the strength to move forward. This journey brought me to a place of deep balance, much like the concept of Kaivalia — a state of centeredness after being pulled far from it. The energy once lost in turmoil and triggered states flooded back, creating a euphoric sense of liberation. Here, I share this personal experience and the lessons it offers for anyone seeking freedom through their own inner struggles.
Understanding Inner Conflict as a Teacher
Conflict is often seen as something to avoid or fix quickly. But during my ayahuasca experience, I realized that conflict is a powerful teacher. It signals where we are out of alignment with ourselves. Instead of pushing it away, I learned to sit with the discomfort and ask the right questions:
What need is this conflict pointing to?
What am I afraid to face or express?
How can I release what no longer serves me?
By exploring these questions, I uncovered hidden emotions and desires that had been buried beneath surface tension. This process helped me see conflict not as a problem but as a map guiding me back to my true self.

The Role of Action in Liberation
Insight alone is not enough. The journey showed me that liberation requires action. Once I identified the core of my conflict, stopped judging myself for having what some would call negative feelings, and instead became ever so curious with them, dancing with them, playing with them, exploring them, I felt empowered to make and take choices that aligned with my well-being. This meant:
Expressing my needs clearly to others
Letting go of relationships or situations that caused inner turmoil
Setting boundaries to protect my energy
Taking these steps can be challenging but necessary. Each action brought a sense of relief and freedom, reinforcing that inner conflict is a call to reclaim control over our lives.
Experiencing Kaivalia: Returning to Center
The concept of Kaivalia, often described in yogic philosophy as ultimate isolation or liberation, resonated deeply with my experience. After being pulled away from my center by conflict and confusion, many times not even aware that this was so alive for me, I reached a state of balance where my energy felt whole again. This return to center was not passive; it was a dynamic process of reclaiming lost energy and focus.
The feeling was euphoric — a flood of vitality and peace that washed away the exhaustion of struggle. This state is not about escaping reality but embracing it fully, dancing with the darkness and the light within.
How Inner Conflict Guides Us Home
Whether our conflicts are internal or manifest outwardly, they serve as important signals on the path to self-understanding and self-responsibility. They highlight areas where we need to pay attention to, tend to, and bring awareness to. By honoring these signals, we can:
Discover deeper truths about ourselves - what is the truth here
Build resilience and capacitythrough self-awareness
Create a life that reflects our authentic needs and values
This perspective transforms conflict from a source of suffering into a powerful guide leading us home — to ourselves.
Practical Tips for Working with Inner Conflict
If you face inner conflict and want to use it as a tool for growth, consider these steps:
Pause and reflect: Instead of reacting, take time to understand what the conflict reveals. What is the truth here?
Ask honest questions: What am I really feeling? What do I need to express?
Journal your thoughts: Writing can clarify emotions and patterns.
Seek support: Trusted friends, therapists, or mentors can offer perspective.
Take aligned action: Make and take choices that honor your well-being and boundaries.
These practices can help transform conflict into a path toward freedom and self-liberation.
